MATRIXVEST: A Celebrity-Backed “Fund” That Wasn’t (31% Recovered)
A polished video of a familiar tech founder “backing” a new fund sent an Austin investor to MATRIXVEST. The endorsement was a deepfake and the fund was a shell — but the trail still pointed somewhere we could act.
Operator on file: MATRIXVEST — read the full scam-broker dossier in our directory.
How the trail began
The ad showed a well-known founder endorsing MATRIXVEST, with a slick site, fake press logos and a “limited allocation” countdown. He deposited in ETH, watched the dashboard climb, and topped up in USDT to reach the next “tier”.
The endorsement was an AI-generated deepfake. The founder had never heard of MATRIXVEST.
Where the trail broke
When he requested a payout, MATRIXVEST demanded a “liquidity verification” deposit, then a “tier upgrade” fee. Each unlocked the next. The dashboard gains were a graphic; nothing was ever invested.
He stopped, but $24,800 had already gone to the platform’s wallets.
“I checked whether the founder was real. I never thought to check whether the video of him was.”Claimant statement — file DAD-2026-0429
The recovery trail
We traced the deposits
We followed his ETH and USDT into the MATRIXVEST collection wallets.
We mapped the pooling
The wallets aggregated funds from many victims of the same campaign before moving them on.
We isolated one cash-out
A portion of the pooled funds reached an exchange with a working compliance desk.
We filed a pooled-victim trace
We submitted evidence tying his transactions into the consolidation pattern.
We set honest expectations
We were candid that pooled shell-fund losses rarely return in full, and pursued the recoverable slice.
Verified Outcome
$7,700 recovered from a traceable cash-out
Warning signs
- A celebrity or founder “endorsing” a specific fund or platform in a video ad — verify the video, not just the name.
- “Limited allocation” countdowns manufacturing urgency.
- Deposits that must be topped up to reach a “tier” before you can withdraw.
- Press logos and dashboards that cannot be confirmed on any independent source.
